Complete the Clinic - Part Deux

Hey there! So its been a while, but things have been moving here! Our grant got approved, a grand total of 34,666 KR so here a quick run down of what weve been doing in these last 2 months.

The first thing we did was start painting.  Of course the medical facilities have requirements for colors and stuff (cream with black trim and red flooring) so we had to be really careful with what we bought and where we put it.
In order to cut down on labor costs everyone in the village pitched in and did some painting with us.  Here we are putting on the undercoat

Top coat, layer 1

Layer 2

Even Mojo helped out with painting! :)
Almost done

Our pretty doors, by now they are varnished

TADA! The inside is done! Took us a week and a half to do all the painting and flooring

So one of the requirements for this grant is that the community has to contribute 25% of the "monetary funds".  I spun that and instead of giving money my community gave supplies in labor that we would have to buy otherwise.  So the main contribution has been making bricks! We started molding these the second week of April and as of right now were still going.  After we mold them we sun them out then make a kiln (shown above) and burn a bunch of logs in the openings there. I think right now we have about 5,000 bricks.  What are the bricks for? Staff housing! The doctors need to live somewhere in the village so we need to make their houses for them, which my community has taken full rein of.  Were hoping to have one house finished by October (we need a minimum of 2 houses).

Day 1 of building: digging the foundation

Day 2: laying the foundation.

Day 3: small walls

Day 4: building corners

Day 5: walls are getting bigger

Ill keep posting as we build but for now this is all weve done.  Thank you again for everyone that helped us with this project, were really excited! Also turns out my grant was chosen as the representation for Zambia for Peace Corps 50th anniversary celebration.  As a requirement to being chosen I had to make a video about my village and our project. I tried to upload the video but it didnt work, Ill try again another time.
